Leadership

Dr. Laura Lang has served as director of the Learning Systems Institute since 2001. She is also an associate professor in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Department in the College of Education. A former school teacher and principal, Dr. Lang's own research examines variables related to improved learning and performance in K-12 schools, with an emphasis on instructional leadership, professional development, data-driven decision making and interventions related to reading, science and mathematics. As LSI director, she serves as the principal investigator or co-principal investigator on many of the institute’s projects.

Partnerships

Under Lang's leadership, LSI works closely with other units at Florida State. It operates the Florida Center for Reading Research in collaboration with the College of Arts & Sciences; operates the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics with both the College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Education; and operates Partnerships for Advancing Library Media with both the College of Communication and Information and the College of Education.

Research Leadership

A team of FSU researchers is housed at LSI and constitutes the institute’s core faculty. Although administratively part of LSI, these lead research faculty also hold teaching appointments at one of the university’s colleges.

In addition, faculty members from across the university are frequent contributors to the institute. In fact, every year more than 150 FSU professors and researchers collaborate on LSI projects.

Administrative Leadership

Rabieh Razzouk, LSI’s associate director for development administration, oversees administration and development at LSI, including proposal development, human resources, accounting, travel and purchasing, facilities and information technology . Razzouk is also the project director for CPALMS and collaborates on several other research projects.
