 Biography: Mia Liza A. Lustria (Assistant Professor) earned her BS and MS in Development Communication from the University of the Philippines and her PhD in Health Communication at the University of Kentucky. As faculty of the Florida State University College of Information, Dr. Lustria teaches information science, information architecture and health informatics courses for the undergraduate IT program. She has expertise in consumer health informatics, particularly in designing, implementing and evaluating interactive behavior change technology systems for health communication and education. Her interest in the latter is grounded on her training in information science and health communication, as well as interest in information seeking behaviors, information architecture, and the design of online health interventions. Dr. Lustria is currently the principal investigator on a project involving the design and evaluation of an informatics system to support rural healthcare providers’ capacities to provide timely referrals for breast cancer screening and adjuvant therapies in rural Florida. This three-year study is funded through a $348,000 grant funded by the Department of Health Bankhead Coley Cancer Research Program. In addition, Dr. Lustria has expertise in: (a) diabetes and behavioral cancer control research, (b) online health information seeking, (c) use of Web 2.0 technologies for health communication, (d) computer-tailoring, and (e) health literacy issues.
